Learning Support Services

The primary goal of Learning Support Services is to assist students from K-5 to achieve their individual potential. These students are screened through a school based team because they are experiencing difficulties with a particular phase of their school work. Our school has 3 LSS teachers on staff. 1.4 LSS teachers support students in the regular program and 0.6 LSS teacher supports students in the French Immersion program.

LSS teachers work with a number of classroom teachers to provide support that include: individual instruction, in class support, collaborative teaching, guided reading as well as extra support in reading, writing and math. LSS teachers also help students develop skills and strategies to become more independent when working in the classroom. Once a student has achieved a specific goal and is approaching their grade level, they are usually exited from the program. Some students have been able to advance two grade levels in their reading!

The LSS program can make a significant difference in the student’s confidence and their enjoyment of learning. It can also have a positive impact on their ability to become independent learners.
